I started doing yoga eight years ago as a way of staying strong and limber while coping with a chronic pain condition. Doing "yoga off the mat" is an expression I have heard frequently since then. It means carrying the lessons of your yoga practice into your daily life. Until recently, the only meaning this concept had for me was a reminder to keep breathing, both in and out.

Grand Rounds is the weekly rotating carnival of the best of the medical blogosphere. Each week, a doctor, nurse, patient or healthcare professional hosts Grand Rounds and compiles links to noteworthy posts about medicine.
 | I learned allot this week, while stuck in bed with a yucky, exhausting cold. I slept, I coughed, I ached, and I lost some of my hair. I cried, went to the doctors, took medicine, and spent time online. That describes my week. But in between all that, I learned allot. |
I learned to "reach out" and allow friends and family to help me. I learned that even if you used to love orange juice and tea, too much of anything can make you sick of it. I also learned that some things just take time to get better. So even though I am not a doctor, I am prescribing myself lots of rest in the next few days and luckily I found all these new health blogs to read while I have some "free time".
I found so much information related to colds and flu from my fellow health bloggers. I can't wait to share some of these posts with you. Maybe the information will help you when you have a cold, or help someone you know.

Nicholas from Grand Rounds just wrote me a friendly reminder email about my hosting this week and I was happy to receive the reminder, but overwhelmed to have received the email from my laptop under my sheets. I am bogged down with a horrible, never ending cold...and for those of you who know A cold + Lupus =NO SPOONS! :) I have been exhausted, sneezey, dopey and a bunch of other namesless dwarfs... But in pajamas, with tissues and armed with cough medicine...the Grand Rounds must go on!

14th Annual Walk-Along for Lupus was on Sunday October 21, 2007. It was a sunny and breezy beautiful day. As of November 2, 2007, The Lupus Alliance has received over $246,000.00!!!! Every day there is more money coming in! (You can still donate to our team)
I was happy to hear that our team - The Donato-Miserandino Team was once again one of the highest raising family teams. I was so proud to have so many people walk with me there that day, and support us through out the past month or so in my fundraising efforts. I believe that my team has raised well over $8,500 and I have more checks and donations that have come in late.
It feels great to once again (This being our 12th year walking) to raise funds for this great cause. I want to give back to the organization that has helped me and countless others. But it also was an amazing feeling to be walking with family, friends, Alumni sorority sisters, and butyoudontlooksick.com friends.

One evening a month ten women friends take time out of our complicated lives to gather together - not to discuss the latest Toni Morrison novel or to pick an eco-friendly company in which to invest or to discuss how to make our streets safer – but to play the game of our childhood, dominoes. Many of us have health conditions (chronic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, cancer) that would make more vigorous play difficult. Dominoes is a great fit! It has low athletic requirements, but demands some attention, and can satisfy competitive urges.

I just needed to share this with the butyoudontlooksick.com readers. I really made me think what would my "last words" be?
What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? For a Carnegie Mellon professor, Randy Pausch, the question isn’t rhetorical. He’s dying of cancer. The Journal’s Moving On columnist Jeff Zaslow narrates a video essay on Prof. Pausch’s final lecture, which he delivered Tuesday night to a packed auditorium.
