I have been reading about EDS and wondering anyone can give me more info about the sometimes appearance of bumps under the skin? any of the references I locate say they are Quote: relatively small, fleshy, tumor-like skin growths (molluscoid pseudo-tumors) and/or hard, round, movable lumps (calcified spheroids) under the skin how big is relatively small? where do they occur? and in a mild case is this indicative of EDS? do the bumps themselves hurt, or only when pressed? thanks for your help

I would also very much like to read the answers to these questions. I see the geneticist in less than two weeks, and try to collect clues until then.

I have them...one never moves...it's about half an inch and is on my left elbow...the others are small (really tiny) and are on the soles of my feet...they're little fatty things...I also have like these "ridges" on my shins that aren't my bone...
EDS comes with all sorts of bumps!

indicative? dont know... but prof who dx ed me didnt look for them...he looked for extensibilty of skin, scar formation and stretchmarks that appeared for 'no' reason. I have a non-moveable bump that seems to have stopped growing at 1 1/2 cm diameter on the bone from wrist to elbow, bumpy/ridged shins 1/2-1cm diameter and a row of tiny bumps (1-3mm dia)on the inside of foot, under ankle bone that only appear when foot bears weight...these I think are called piezogenic papules. xxg

Yep those are them!!!! and the one on your bone can be a subcutaneous spheroid or a mullescoid pseudotumor

I had some on the foot. A possible doctor-given explanation is that collagen from a tendon flaked off before presumably dissolving. That can happen to anyone - cells in the body are constantly dying off and being replaced - but it seems that defective connective tissue would be especially prone to breakage.

On this page, perhaps they refer to the bumps of which you speak? http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1114004-overviewIt says Quote: Smaller, deep, palpable, and movable nodules are often present in the subcutaneous tissue. ◦ These nodules can be found in the arms and over the tibias. ◦ Calcification leads to opacity on radiographs. I have one on my outer, lower arm (since 30's) and one on my tibia (since 16). But, I also have hundreds of tiny bumps under the skin of my forearms that developed about 10 years ago. I'm now 62. Please note that I have not be diagnosed with EDS, but have many, many of the symptoms, thankfully not nearly as severe as many here.

Could this be misdiagnosed as "shin splints" a common sports injury? When I was in the military I developed a row of bumps down each leg that they called shin splints and said they were micro tears in the muscle or some such, however I always thought it strange because it caused my whole leg to hurt not just one spot and the bumps were on the front side of the bone and all the way from my knee to my ankle. It was the military after all, their solution was to give me muscle relaxers and drink lots of fluids. *rolls eyes*

Just MHO, but shin splints is something totally different than this. I've had shin splints (too often) and it hurts like he-ll. Nothing like the "bumps" in discussion, AFAIK. (from what I know of the military, if ibuprofen can't fix it, there's nothing wrong with it! )

If it doesn't fix it then you're faking. Anyways, that was what I was thinking. I had never heard of the bumps being part of shin splints, but that's what they told me and I didn't really know that much about it. I guess that's just another thing to add to my list of symptoms. lol
