Okay all you lovelys out there....need your help!

Had an upper GI done - which showed 0 movement of my stomach during the 20 minutes it was being done. Dr felt with this and my other symptoms, I had Gastroparesis. Sent me for a Gastric Emptying, and it came back normal - within the normal emptying time.

I'm now confuzzled....does this mean I don't have GP? I have the constant nausau, feeling full after just a couple bites....all of the other tests such as gallbladder and ulcer came back normal, as well.

Anyone else have this happen? Thanks!!

There are different times at which your motility test can be done for-- 2, 4, and 6 hours, the latter of which is the gold standard. Do you know which you had done?

Also, it's VERY possible that it might have been a good day for your tummy on the day of the GES, or that you were having a BAD day the day of the GI scan. What is your current diet like? Can you eat raw veggies, fatty foods, whole wheat, and the like? Do you take any meds, and were you taking them the day of the test?

Even if you don't have GP, there may be something else going on--or maybe you do have GP, but is mild? I'm only saying this cause i've heard of GES tests being wrong before from others.

I hope you don't have GP, but I do really hope you & your doc can figure out what's up *hugs*

Same here...had the upper GI and my doc was sure it was GP...but i soon began feeling better and the GES came back normal.

I have the problems in waves...usually when my POTS is flaring up and i'm having more Dysaut. related problems.

She told me on the phone that she may have me get a second opinion.

Hope they figure out what's up :(

I go back to the dr on Monday the 17th....I'll know more then. I still have the constant nausau and the upper ab pains, and I still can't eat much at all before feeling really awful. I guess I'll find out on Monday!

I also had a normal Gastric emptying scan. It was 90 minutes. At this time I wa hospitalized for stomach pain and such. I ended up having another endoscopy which I fasted 12 plus hours for. Sure enough my GI found food in my stomach. He was upset that only a 90 minute test was done. When its a short test math equations are used to evaluate a time. My GI decided that regardless of a negative GES that I most definately have GP. Be persisnt with your doctor to get answers.

Hello my fellow GPer's! I am saddened to see others with GP but it's nice to know that I'm not alone in this terrible disease. I wouldn't wish this condition on my worst enemy!

I was diagnosed with GP two years ago after over 8 years of illness. I had a GES done over a 4 hour period which showed very limited movement of the luke warm eggs and toast.

I look forward to visiting with all of you!

Post Re: Gastroparesis Discussion
I didn't get to read all the responses but when my daughter was diagnosed with gastroparesis she was also diagnosed with a "small bowel bacterial overgrowth". This is when normal bacteria in the small bowel gets to be too high in numbers. It is diagnosed with a "hydrogen breath test", which is time consuming but not invasive since you blow in a tube every 20-30 minutes for a couple hours. We were told the gastroparesis can cause this to build up and it is treated with antibiotics. Once she took the antibiotics she at least got over the extreme bloating and severe nausea. Then we worked on the gastroparesis with reglan and later domperodone (unsure of spelling) which has seemed to work to speed things along and keep her from getting infected again as well so my suggestion would be to have a GI look into this as well, especially if there is significant bloating. Well, good luck to all with this issue. It is a total bummer and there isn't a lot that can be done so I'll be praying for all those who suffer.

Take care and God Bless
