 SSDI APPLICATION PROCESS SUMMARY
For those of you getting ready to start the process of applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), here is a "quick summary" of the process. For details, forms, examples, and COMPLETE process instructions, please email me at: csmagura@yahoo.com. Quote: Step-by-Step SSDI Process
1. Do the Symptom Impairment and Before and After matrices; send to Carolyn via email for critique; finalize.
2. Obtain and critique drs’ chart notes. Hilight where they deviate from the info in step #1. Fax the pages needing changes, along with your recommended changes to each dr, along with your matrices as justification. Stay on this until each “issue” is resolved.
3. Do draft of RFC/PCE. Take it, along with blank, into husband’s “Primary dr”, along with matrices. Have the Dr complete and sign this document while you and husband wait. Leave a copy for the dr’s file; take original with you.
4. Get co-worker and friend letters done.
5. Get drs’ letters; make sure that they are worded as you need.
6. Finally, get the SSDI application form – can get it online. Print it out, and compile all your documentation. Make sure you keep a copy of EVERYTHING.
7. Make the apntnmt with SS office. Take the whole package in with you.

 Re: SSDI APPLICATION PROCESS SUMMARY
I'm waiting to hear an answer any day now. I used a law firm from the start as I didn't think I could deal with the process. I'm told that they have actually made a decision on my case and that its gone to quality control for review of the decision and then it will go to my local social security office to send out the notification. I hope thats a good sign! Steve

 Re: SSDI APPLICATION PROCESS SUMMARY
I did finally get approved. The total time it took was five months from start to finish. I highly recommend using a law firm from the start. With that weight off my shoulders and the cooler weather I'm feeling much better at the moment. The hotter weather seems to put me in flare mode. So...enjoying the worry free symptom free time while I can! Steve

 Re: SSDI APPLICATION PROCESS SUMMARY
Steve: How did you find a lawyer to represent you from the get-go? When I called around my vicinity, I kept getting told to call back if/when I get denied. I finally started the process on my own, but I'd love to find a lawyer to work with *now* instead of later! I'd especially love a personal recommendation for a lawyer, but I don't know anyone locally who's used one. Thanks! Aviva

They take cases all over the U.S. and actually PREFER you going to them from the start although you are free to engage them at whatever point in the process you are at. I've done enough procrastinating and am getting ready to start working on the matrices, getting doctor files and getting my ducks lined up in a row and then I'm going to use them. They have an office in Houston so I am in luck there but as I said they have offices all over the U.S. and take cases nationwide. I'm not endorsing them because I haven't met them yet, just trying to answer your question. Hope this helps, Kellye
