Paul Newman 1925-2008

For 25 years, we at Newman's Own have had a front row seat to watch Paul's entrepreneurial brilliance, humor, and compassion at work helping those in need. Our company motto, "Shameless Exploitation in Pursuit of the Common Good," was Paul's vision for Newman's Own and it is a philosophy we are proud to continue.

Paul occasionally referred to Newman's Own as the "joke that got out of control" and would express astonishment at its success. Despite this humorous approach, Paul was committed to the company's business and to providing top-notch quality – he brought all-natural food products to a wide audience long before it was fashionable. And he was one of the greatest recyclers, giving back to charity all the money he earned from the sale of Newman's Own products.

Newman's Own has grown into a powerful and lasting expression of Paul Newman's generosity. The Company has generated over $250 million in proceeds that have been donated by Paul Newman and the Newman's Own Foundation to thousands of charities worldwide. Particularly close to his heart were the Hole in the Wall Camps, now the leading global family of camps for children with life-threatening illnesses, which Paul started over 20 years ago.

Today, Newman’s Own is a thriving company with hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue. As always, all profits are donated to charity through Newman's Own Foundation.

So to start us off, today eyeeco.com made me happy. They made a very generous donation to my Lupus Walk page! It was unexpected and made me smile.

They have also generously offered to give the butyoudontlooksick.com readers a special coupon to receive 10% off when buying one of the masks. Just use the coupon code LUPA.

Gotta love a company that has a good product, gives a discount to loyal customers, and then gives back by donating to a great cause.

We asked our message board members to post pictures and the only guidance given was "5 years of spoonies". All the entries were wonderful! (I will feature all of them here this week, but we had to start with LindaK - our winner!) I was SO impressed with the creativity, and passion in each of the photos. Thank you to all the participants!

Photographer: LindaK, USA

"I thought really hard about what the website is and what it means to the members here. So, of course - I used the 5 spoons. Then I thought about meds and the negative issues we have about them - so many of them, the side effects, the looks people give us when we have to ask for them, or when they find out how many we take. So, me being me and being little Miss Postive - I used the pills to create rays of sunshine coming from the spoons. So, just as the sun is the center of our world and the give us warmth and hope, the spoons are our center and the rays of pills reach out so that we can touch all that belong."

This year we were honored at the Lupus Gala for our volunteer work with this wonderful organization.

I can not thank all of you enough for supporting me and my passion to raise funds and awareness for this disease. I have amazing friends, family, and butyoudontlooksick.com buddies who always are there for me. I am so blessed. I have a wonderful husband, and an angel baby daughter Olivia. I thank the Lupus Alliance for all their support throughout the years, but especially with my pregnancy last year. The work of the Lupus Alliance is so important. I am so grateful to them, and this is my way of "giving back".

Please donate what you can, no donation is too small...(or too large :) Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Feel free to join our team and raise funds yourself.

**********If you can not donate- please help by passing this email/ link along to anyone you think may be interested.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! They can donate on this page, or make their own page and join our team! The More the Merrier!

Thank you,

With Love,

Christine, Frank and Olivia Emma

Annie and Tom from Chicago, Illinois are one of five couples competing in the NBC TODAY Show's annual "Race to the Altar." Your vote today can help Annie and Tom get married live on the show in June.

Annie was diagnosed with lupus when she was 17. After she was diagnosed, Annie feared that no one would ever be able to love her completely for who she was as a person. Yet it was her chronic disease that gave Annie an inner strength and drive to succeed, all qualities that to this day Tom constantly admires about her.

Help Annie and Tom be selected as this year’s TODAY Show wedding couple by voting for Annie and Tom. The deadline for this round of voting is 12 p.m. Eastern Time this coming Monday, May 19.
