I am proud of my wife, Christine. I am proud of the work she does for the Lupus Alliance, this website, and for our family. I am proud of her passion to help others, and the impact she has had on so many people through her speaking engagements, and of course, through ButYouDontLookSick.com.
I had the pleasure of joining Christine and the Lupus Alliance on a recent trip to Washington DC, to promote Lupus awareness and lobby for the support of local congressional representatives. We decided to bring our seven month old daughter, Olivia, and my role was to care for her during the trip so that Christine could fully participate in the Advocacy Day activities. This included training sessions, lectures, and individual meetings with congressional representatives Carolyn McCarthy (D, New York) and Peter King (R, New York).

Empowered Patient, a regular feature from CNN Medical News correspondent Elizabeth Cohen, helps put you in the driver's seat when it comes to health care. This week's topic asks the question, "Are you an obnoxious patient?".
Christine was quoted in tips # 3, 4 and 5! Ms. Cohen was easy to speak with and it was a pleasure to work with her. I hope to again in the future as patient advocacy and empowerment is something I feel so strongly about.
Story Highlights
* Be an informed, confident patient, but also listen to your doctor's view
* Don't demand a prescription without an office visit
* Share, but don't overload, your doctor with info you've gathered independently
* If you need more than 15 minutes, make special arrangements beforehand

Christine Miserandino is a writer, blogger, speaker and patient advocate from NY. She also happens to be someone who is living with Lupus. Her writing has been featured in numerous newspapers, magazines, medical newsletters and television media.
From the age of fifteen, Christine Miserandino has been diagnosed with a myriad of illnesses from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to Epstein Barr, and finally, many years later to a determination of Lupus. Though battling a shopping list of symptoms, Christine has consistently been told, by both well-wishers and doctors alike, “But you don't look sick.” as if that was some kind of compensation for being chronically ill. Many times, being pretty or not sickly looking, made it harder to validate an illness you cannot see.

*Check your local listings for air dates and times.
What happens when you know your child is sick, but no one can tell you what's wrong...sometimes for years? Lupus, a debilitating disease, is still a medical mystery. Join Dr. Winnie King as we attempt to unravel this mystery on a full-show episode of Keeping Kids Healthy. Without a single known cause, no simple test for diagnosis and symptoms so vague and so varied, Lupus can often elude the doctors trying to detect it. But learning about Lupus is actually the first step in detecting it. You'll hear from a young woman, Christine Miserandino who lived with Lupus since she was 14 but wasn't diagnosed until 22;. Hear the story of how one mother refused to give up until her daughter's condition was diagnosed and hear a Lupus expert discuss symptoms, treatments, care and the latest news on medical advances in Lupus research.

Product Reviews are an excellent way to get the word out about a unique product or business. They work much like a testimonial, which we all know is a great promotional tool, but product reviews can actually be considered a "step up" from testimonials, since they go into more detail and are by far more personal.
