Please vote for butyoudontlooksick.com and Christine in the People's HealthBlogger Awards!!

Please Vote for ButYouDontLookSick.com : People's HealthBlogger Awards!! This is a new contest. We are truly honored to be in the top 5 finalists! There are some amazing health bloggers out there, each unique and each one worthy of your time to read. If this contest does nothing more then put great health bloggers at your finger tips and gives them a litte spotlight and gives them a litte exposure... that is a great thing! For me, gaining a wider audience with hope of greater awareness and understanding for Lupus and for many other invisible diseases is and has always been my primary goal.

Please pass this link to friends and family who may be familiar with our site and encourage them to vote too. Every vote counts! ButYouDontLookSick.com would not exist without you, and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

We have 1 week to VOTE and help spread the word! This contest is the last contest and it ends Jan 31

This truly has been a wonderful and humbling week at butyoudontlooksick.com. They say things come just when you need them most. I have been having a rough time lately. You would think you would "get used to" living with lupus after 16 years, but you don't. You might get better at it, you might cry less, but it still sucks. Add a cold to lupus and it has been a rough week.

Maybe I am just in a funk lately. I've been tired of fighting, tired of being sick, and wondering why I write here and keep the butyoudontlooksick.com community together. Can one person really help? Can one person make a difference? These contests seem to come at just the right time to lift my spirits and to reminded me of why I started butyoudontlooksick.com: so people do not feel so alone, so patients can share their experiences, tips and resources, and so much more.

This week started off with butyoudontlooksick.com being a finalist in Medgadget's 2008 Medical Weblog Award in the category of Best Patient's Weblog. I was honored beyond words not only to be recognized for the work I am trying to do, but also for the company of hard working creative health bloggers that I share this distinction with. Seeing the numbers of people who have taken time out of thier day to vote for us fills my heart. I won 2nd place, and although there is no recognition, or prize... the thought that over 1,000 people voted for me just rocked my world!

Well, I also found out this week that I was nominated and listed in the top 10 for The People's HealthBlogger Awards!! As of this posting, I went from not even knowing I was in the running, to being in the top 5. It is amazing! Now, I thought to myself... imagine if I actually told the readers of this site about that contest too, maybe we can be in the top 5, or heck who knows... #1. (why not set the bar high?) :) It is a VERY tight race and EVERY vote counts!!! (tell your friends, etc)
*I will say that this award requires you to sign up with your email and a name. It takes very little time to cast your vote, but I like to let our readers know up front that voting will require an email address. They will not spam you. You can vote with as many email addresses as you have. You will also need to specify a reason to vote. Something like: "I like Christine because she rocks!" is just fine with me :) Whatever your reason, if you have a few minutes, I would really appreciate the vote.

The funny thing about this contest is that even though it might take a minute longer to cast your vote, I (and the rest of the world seeing the contest) will see your screenname and your reason for voting. For this website it might mean new readers inspired by something you wrote: why you like our message boards, or our posts, or our newsletter etc. Selfishly, I have spent tonight on the couch with my laptop filling my soul with the good karma you guys have sent me through your votes. I am truly humbled by some of what the voters have written. You have inspired me to keep writing, keep volunteering, and keep working to help others.

I feel better tonight then I have in a long time.

If you can take a moment and vote for me, for us, for butyoudontlooksick.com I would truly appreciate it.

And if you vote, Christine will send you a pound of chocolate.*

Seriously, I voted in both of them as soon as I saw it. I didn't see the returns at the wellness site that's the second one, but it said my vote counted. Say something cool about the site. Talk about the thing on it you use the most.

We can give Christine a loose idea of what our favorite features are by describing them in the vote comments, and give people who've never been here a good accurate view of the site just by mentioning our favorite things. I gave her five paragraphs of heart rending story about one of the worst things that happened in my life, for no good reason other than it's true and my fingers don't stop when I hit the keyboard.

Being specific is a good thing. "Because I always check out the product reviews that come up in the articles, she has this eye for cute things that can make your life easier" is a good one. "Because she understands..." can be anything. The list for me would be different of course.

We're all different and this is a cool way to show our differences.

*If you send Christine the money for the chocolate and the shipping, and while you're at it you should send her some fancy chocolate too because she's as sick as any of us and is doing all of this by herself keeping us sane. So order some chocolate for yourself for being a good person and send her an e-card with a picture of some chocolate on it, because I vaguely remember something about her not being able to have it any more and climbing the walls.
