Book Review: Life Disrupted: Getting Real About Chronic Illness in Your Twenties and Thirties

Health writer and blogger Laurie Edwards has written a book and I am so happy to review it. This book is brand new and just became available June 24th. I found Laurie's blog achronicdose.com about a year ago and I have been reading it ever since. She's living with multiple chronic illnesses (PCD or Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, bronchiectasis, celiac disease, and more).

The author does a great job connecting with her audience on a personal level. I felt that many of Laurie’s stories could’ve been my own – or reminded me of friends and family members that have had similar experiences. Life Disrupted reminds us that those of us living and coping with a chronic illness shouldn’t do so in isolation, and that there are so many others that share these same experiences and concerns.

This book is well written, and covers a number of realistic topics like maintaining healthy friendships and relationships, balancing a career with your healthcare needs, and generally managing your illness rather than allowing the illness to manage you. Life Disrupted includes author Laurie Edwards’ personal stories as well advice from both professionals and others living with chronic illness themselves.

Butyoudontlooksick.com is proud to be listed as a resource in this book. I am very happy to be promoting the strong work of a friend. Living life with chronic conditions is a challenge in itself, and the commitment shown by Laurie Edwards to write and publish this truly enjoyable book is an inspiration to all of us who often find ourselves placing our illness between ideas and action.
