Product Review: Gopher II Pick Up & Reaching Tool

I have a Lazy Susan in a corner cabinet of the kitchen and every so often, a can or other item will fall off the shelf and roll to the back of the cabinet out of my reach. After I got a bottle of vanilla stuck back there, I asked my husband to purchase a long-handled grabbing tool for me, as I figured it would have multiple uses. Enter the Gopher II.

It’s Summer And The Kids Are Bored! Learn Something New!

Moms, this summer don’t forget to teach your children a craft. No matter what kind it is, it’s real good for keeping idle hands busy and giving the child a sense of accomplishment. They can do it for personal expression, as a gift, or for actual needs, depending on the type of craft done.

Here are a few of my new favorite items to make your next party easier!

I find that the hardest part of having people over is the set up and clean up. It takes a lot of energy and time, and let’s face facts- it is no fun! I want to be social and keep in touch with friends, but I do not want to pay for it the next day with exhaustion, pain and frustration and I do not want my house to be a total mess the next day. I have found a few items that have made some of my recent parties easier, and I am happy to pass them on to you! Although some of these items wouldn’t necessarily be items that you would buy all the time (either due to expenses, etc) I find that once in a while helpful items are so worth it!

Product Review: Water Jel Burn Gel Plus Emergency Burn Care

This is a great item to keep in your medicine cabinet or home medical kit. Kitchen burns can happen all year long, but during the summer we have the added chance of burns from the grill. I have even gotten small burns from my hair dryer and hair straightener.

Book Review: Life Disrupted: Getting Real About Chronic Illness in Your Twenties and Thirties

Health writer and blogger Laurie Edwards has written a book and I am so happy to review it. This book is brand new and just became available June 24th. I found Laurie's blog achronicdose.com about a year ago and I have been reading it ever since. She's living with multiple chronic illnesses (PCD or Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, bronchiectasis, celiac disease, and more).

Stay Home on Vacation "Stay-cation" Ideas

Economic conditions being what they are, many people are finding themselves with less disposable income for non-essentials, such as big-ticket vacations. In addition, those with a chronic illness may find that travel to faraway locations is incompatible with their limited energy. So, how do you indulge in a getaway without actually going away? The answer is the "stay-cation".

The Pain of Disease and the Triumph of Togetherness

* Looking back on 5 years of ButYouDontLookSick.com

There’s a pain that can be worse than any physical disease.

It’s the loneliness you feel when you see your friends go out and do things without a second thought and how that is an impossible dream for you. How the simple act of attending class or going out to supper becomes a mountain you just cannot scale, because of the varying weights that disease dangles along with it. It is so difficult when you are all alone and those you love are where you want to be and they don’t even understand the magnitude of how much you would love to have that normalcy to be there. I would love to be able to not deal with a single consequence and only reap the rewards of fulfilling that task with them, but I can't always do that.

Book Review: 2008 CalorieKing Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter

I hate cooking in the summer months. I do not want to turn on the oven and make my whole house hot, so I find that I end up eating out a lot. I still want to eat well and be informed of calories, sugars, fats etc. in what I am eating, but I am a "woman on the go", and sometimes fast food is my only quick and easy option.

Product Review: Glide Point Massage Tool - the small tool that gives a big massage

This small and handy massage tool was so easy to use that I picked it up and started right away. The big selling point of this device is the fact that the gliding rolling ball moves effortlessly across skin or clothes, giving a smooth massage without having to use messy oils, lotions or gels.

Sun Protection UV Clothing Product Reviews

I was going away to Mexico this summer and I was concerned about the sun- not only because of sunburn, but because of my Lupus. I find that I am more sun sensitive than most, so I wanted to find sun protection clothing which was both functional and fashionable, without spending a ton of money. I did not want to alter any part of my vacation, because I couldn't be in the sun. Naturally, I wanted to do the same activities as everyone else.

Get Organized! Your Personal Health Record

It is important for every patient to take an active role in their own healthcare. A personal health record is designed to grow as your needs grow or your health changes, and should be updated as often as needed. It is important to record how your health changes and mark your progress.

Take the first step!

Do not get overwhelmed! Take your time, and collect a little bit of information at a time. You will be surprised how it all adds up and you will feel much more organized and prepared when seeing your doctor. Also, once you have gathered and collected the necessary information, you’ll be surprised how easy it can be to organize it and print it out later.
