Product Review: Bull Frog Mosquito Coast Sunblock with Insect Repellent

Here's a warm-weather dilemma: you need protection from UV rays, but the bugs are eating you alive! Which do you apply, sunscreen or mosquito repellent? Fortunately, Bull Frog has a product which contains both!

Mosquito Coast spray has an SPF rating of 30, which is sufficient for short trips outdoors, for all but the most photo-sensitive skin. If you find you'll be in the sun for more than three hours or if you are sweating a lot, you should probably re-apply the product. What I like about the spray is that unlike most sunblock, it doesn't create that nasty white film like lotions do and you can actually rub it into your skin.

This is a DEET-free product. It says it will repel mosquitoes for up to eight hours. And unlike most bug sprays, it doesn't have a horrid scent.

I put the spray to the ultimate test last July 4th, watching fireworks in my front yard for two hours (people like to joke that the state bird of South Dakota is the mosquito). Even though there were plenty of bugs flying around, I didn't get bitten even once and I am normally a very tasty morsel for every biting insect.

So far, I have not gotten sunburned either while wearing this product and I have not had any problems with it bothering my sensitive skin. Of course, anyone with a known sensitivity should test Mosquito Coast on a small area and check for a reaction before applying to large areas of the body.

The next time you find yourself needing both sunscreen and bug spray, check out Bull Frog.
