Moving Tip: Location IS Everything!

How many times have you opened a drawer, cabinet or closet and spied an item that you had every intention of using, but don't? It's really frustrating... you have spent good money on that item and now it just sits, gathering dust. Why? Simple... out of sight, out of mind!

Several months ago my husband received a promotion and out of the blue, after spending over ten years in our home in Nebraska, we were uprooted and moved 500 miles away to southeast Missouri. While I was anxious to get "hooked up" with satellite Internet (we don't get cable in our rural location), I soon noticed that I was primarily spending my time offline. I have many on line commitments and they were going without attention for long periods of time.

It finally occurred to me why - I had set up the computer in a back bedroom converted to an office. It sounds like a wonderful thing to have, and it was completely different from the way I had things arranged back home. I was excited! Previously, I had my computer desk sitting in the living room and had my special chair (the one that hurts my back the least). I was right in the middle of all the activity, I could watch TV or crochet with my feet up while surfing without getting up. I had my coffee and all the dogs right there. It was just a very cozy place to be.

Now, if I want to use the computer I have to grab my coffee and anything else I need, and have the nine dogs follow me down the hall to the office. Nothing ever seems to be there when I need it. I was constantly making trips back to the kitchen or living room (followed by the nine dogs) to grab something. In short, it was a pain to go there and I hated it.

After realizing the problem, I did one simple thing - I moved the computer to the kitchen table (which my husband and I never use!). Within two days I was caught up on email and had checked in with all my websites. From that point on, it was business as usual and it felt fabulous to be back in touch with the world!

While your unused item may not be a computer, it is going unused just as my computer was. Look at WHY you are really not using the object. Is it in an inconvenient place? Because as I have discovered, location IS everything!
