Poetry: Sleepless Nights

A poem submitted by one of our members.

Sleepless Nights
As I lay in the dark thinking
Of all those sleepless nights past
I wonder what the point is
Of this nightmare I call life

Each night the same routine
Starts with turning out the light
And laying in the dark
Staring into the abyss

This time I claim to think and wonder
As I lay there I decide a punishment is in place
But what I ask did I do?

Next I shut my eyes
As the fatigue is great and the pain has grown more
Laying there with my eyes closed
I wait for sleep to come
But it never does

And so my emotions change
I become angry and a bit frustrated
Depression overtakes me

So I decide to do some late night reading
All the while hoping my parents don't find out
I read for a nice lond time
And then decide to try again

The process repeats itself
Stare at the celing, close my eyes,
And if I'm lucky....
I might get a couple hours sleep

Tommorow night I get to do it again
Oh the joys of being a "Spoonie".

awesome reflective poem.

Oh, how I can relate to all of it!

I remember reading a 700 page book ......and laughing throughout it ( it was a great book about a woman's trials in life but she had an Erma Bombeck sense of humor that really hit my funny bone ) and then realizing, it was 3 or 4 AM and I'd been reading for hours.....and I wasn't the LEAST bit sleepy.

Soothing calm peaceful Music didn't help. Hot baths/showers didn't help.
Reading didn't cause me to fall asleep. I really know how it gets to the point that you become exasperated and angry and you don't WANT to see another beautiful sunrise.....after being awake all night.

thanks for the great poem, and I hope you will eventually find something to help you have pleasanter nights.
