Website and Product Review: chroniquecouture.com
I have just discovered my new favorite website- beside my own of course. It's called Chronique Couture and it was begun a year ago by a young woman named Kimberly who was diagnosed with MS. Like most young women, she was saddened by the lack of practical, yet fashionable "medical accessories." Anyone who has to deal with a chronic illness knows how much the little things in life can lift your spirits. This website features items to make your life easier, as well as put a smile on your face.
The website itself is fun to peruse, with bold and colorful backgrounds and a sassy and chic look. If you deserve a treat or you need a gift for someone who struggles with a chronic illness, this is a great place to shop.
Below is just a sampling of the many products from www.chroniquecouture.com.
For those who need to use a walker they carry standard sized bags to use with them, 12" by 15" which sell for $30, as well as "Demi" Walker-bags, 12" by 8.5", which sell for $26. The walker itself may be a necessary evil for you, but the bag needed to lug all your stuff doesn't have to be. These chic bags come in a variety of cool prints like; blue paisley, pink and chocolate dots, as well as pink with a touch of zebra. Unfortunately, we associate walkers with the image of a little old granny, but these bags will certainly help to change that image.
Many of us with chronic aches and pains would love to have the luxury of visiting a spa everyday to help ease our sore joints, but for most of us a spa day is a once a year luxury. Now you can create your own spa time at home. Sonoma Lavender Spa Booties and Spa Wrap help to warm up your cold feet or your aching bones with the warm smell of healing lavender. Both are priced at $34, but together they are still cheaper than the cost of a spa treatment. These items can be placed in the microwave and when used they fill your body with a moist warm sensation and your senses with the comforting smell of lavender. Lavender has been used for ages for a multitude of health benefits, like lifting depression and anxiety, as well as inducing sleep. I love both the booties and the wrap- they make me feel comforted and pampered.
After you've treated yourself to a relaxation time with your booties on, you can write in your journal and put on a pair of comfy pajamas and flip flops. The journals featured on Chronique Couture are $14 and come in 3 styles. I especially liked the one that is emblazoned with the quote "I exist as I am, that is enough." Sometimes we just need to use a journal to log in our meds or keep track of our flare-ups and sometimes we just need a place to write down our thoughts and vent a little. In either case, these journals are sooo cute and so much nicer than a black marbled notebook.
The pajamas I got to try are called Frankie and Johnny Fairy Tale Wedding PJ's. These sell for $75 and make a great gift for any bride or newlywed, which technically I still am, despite a baby on the way. They are covered in pink hearts, horse-drawn carriages and castles on clouds, making them perfect for the romantic dreamer in all of us. The PJ's are made out of 100% cotton and are light and comfortable, a pre-requisite for someone who might spend a little more time in bed than most. But make no mistake, these PJ's are great for the healthy among us too.
With your pajamas on, you can slip into your Patricia Green Snow Club Shearling flip flop slippers. These are for the serious flip-flop aficionados, those with a lavish love of flip flops. They are very comfortably lined in pink shearling, but they are not for the faint of heart, at a price of $88. Beside looking oh so cute, these keep my feet warm, but not sweaty in the warmer weather.
A cute idea to keep track of your meds or just to help your brain frog from causing chaos and disorder with your things to do list, is the Morning, Noon & Night Magnetic Note Pad. There are 60 sheets with a section for morning, noon and night and it sells for $5.99. This handy notepad can stick to your fridge or any magnetic surface and helps you break down your chores or your meds for the day. Anyone who experiences "brain fog" needs as many reminders as they can get. Sometimes I write reminders in my journal, but forget to open up the book. This reminder is at least in front of me every time I go to get a glass of water or a snack out of the fridge.
With your snack, you might need to take your pills. Chronic Couture has a wide array of Classic Pillboxes, in retro, vintage looks and in three sizes ($18-$22). Again, taking pills may be a dreary part of life for us, but taking out something fun and pretty somehow makes it seem a little bit better. It makes the pills a little easier to swallow- so to speak.
For those who need to use syringes, there is an extravagant luxury item- a Prefilled Syringe Carry Case, which is covered in Swarovski crystals and sells for $85. There are three styles, and they look like very decorative pens. I love the blurb on this item- "If you have to self inject meds- you might as well look like a rock star." Amen I say to that.
Another decorative feature for a very mundane task is a Sharps Container Cover, which cost $22. These cover the holder for your insulin needles and instead of having to look at an ugly container in your bathroom, you can jazz up your container and leave it out and available for use.
I also love the Glucose Monitor Pocket Case. These adorable 5" by 5" cases hold your monitor, while keeping you very chic and fashionable. There are two styles- jeans with red gingham and zebra with pink, both at an affordable $14.99. If you have to carry a glucose monitor, these handy pocket cases are adorable and make the chore of monitoring your sugar a little less "painful."
This whole website is all about fun. It's mission is to make those of us with a chronic illness, feel sexy and chic, but there is something for everyone else on your gift list. They offer lots of other cool things like; stationary, martini glasses, party cups, napkins and lots more. There's a price range from magnets for $5.75 to a Swarovski crystal pen for $130. So check it out at www.Chroniquecouture.com and make sure to tell them butyoudontlooksick.com sent you!
