Product Review: OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner

A healthy diet full of vegetables is often part of an ill person’s wellness plan. For my family, salad ranks high on the list of favorites. But the thought of washing, chopping and spinning all of that lettuce can be a daunting task for someone with chronic fatigue or arthritis.

Long ago, we had a traditional salad spinner with a tiny knob on the top that slipped from my hands, making spinning a frustrating task. Round and round and round, just one load of the green stuff could take all of my energy. For years after that spinner broke, we dried our lettuce with clean tea towels, but they weren’t effective and created laundry. For a few dollars, my dad bought another simple salad spinner like the first, except that the basket was smaller, which meant even more time and energy spent spinning lettuce. Making a garden salad for dinner quickly became a dreaded chore.

Finally, I’d had enough. I ordered an OXO Good Grips salad spinner designed for arthritic hands. It has a large basket for the chopped lettuce, a no-slip bottom that stabilizes the spinner, and a pump action top that makes drying lettuce easy. In addition, it sports a brake button to stop spinning in an instant, the plunging style top locks down for easy storage, and it is dishwasher safe.

For anyone with fatigue, arthritis in the hands or dexterity issues, this is the salad spinner for you. It’s easy, effective and fun. You’ll never spin lettuce the hard way again.
